Advocacy

The overall objective of DERA’s Advocacy Service is to provide assistance with residential tenancy rights, welfare rights, and seniors rights. These areas form our focus as they provide the most common problems for our residents. The thrust of Advocacy is threefold: legal aid, legal education, and legal reform.

DERA advocates assist over 5,000 residents yearly and are well versed in legislation and regulations governing welfare and preparation of reconsideration requests, Income Tax preparation and entitlements, and the Employment Insurance Act.

Advocacy is a free service funded by the Law Foundation of British Columbia.

Advocates and Homelessness Prevention Workers work with City of Vancouver departments to monitor and clean up the substandard housing stock.
